I'm a huge Bachelor fan, and I because I don't believe pleasure should be guilty, I won't call it my guilty pleasure. I agree with most of the criticisms against the show, but I still find it both entertaining and a perfect source of conversation starters on deep topics like diversity, honesty, communication, somatic feedback, emotional health, authenticity...the list could go on for a while.
In honor of Bachelor in Paradise wrapping up for the summer, here's a list of 10 things I've learned from The Bachelor franchise about effective leadership.
The most important part of any relationship (boss, coworker, friend, loved one, you name it!) is communication. Keep it honest and respectful.
You're never, ever, ever going to get ahead by bad mouthing someone else.
First impressions and gut instincts are usually right. With that said...
...check in with your gut frequently and question that first impression constantly.
Listen to that fleeting thought telling you to be concerned.
There's a tricky balance you need to strike between listening to your confidantes telling you to be cautious and following your instinct in the face of disapproval.
Be authentic always, even if it's embarrassing. It's more embarrassing to be a fraud.
Vulnerability breeds strength, takes courage, and makes you more resilient.
It takes a lot of work (physical, mental, emotional) to go after something you want.
If you know you want something, go after it even if the odds aren't in your favor. If things don't work out, at least you can live your life without the regret of passing up a pretty cool opportunity.
